lightroom presets

I just recently started using Lightroom to edit my photos, and I wanted to share how with you! Before, I always used VSCO because of how easy it was to make one-click edits using their presets. The good news is that Lightroom allows you to use presets also—but gives you more control over the customization of those presets as well! Once you have learned how to download presets and use that feature, it is so easy and fun to make your own!

How to INSTALL a Lightroom Mobile Preset:

  1. Download the preset here. This link will take you to Google Drive where you can download the file. Save the DNG to Photos. It will look blank on your camera roll, but don’t worry!

  2. Open the Lightroom Mobile App and import the photo.

  3. Click the check in the upper right corner.

  4. Select the photo again.

  5. Click on the button with three dots in the upper right corner.

  6. Choose ‘Create Preset’ from the menu.

  7. Enter a name for the preset! I call it Buenaventura, but you can choose whatever name you like!

  8. Click the check in the upper right corner. Now you’re done!

How to USE a Lightroom Mobile Preset:

  1. Import the photo you want to edit.

  2. Scroll to the far right of the bottom menu.

  3. Click the ‘Presets’ button.

  4. Click the arrow to open a dropdown menu and choose ‘User Presets.’

  5. Choose the preset.

  6. Make adjustments!

How to ADJUST the preset to fit your photo:

Help! My skin is a weird color!

Go to the ‘Color’ tab and choose ‘Mix’ in the upper right corner of the menu. Click on the orange dot. Slide the ‘Hue’ slider to the right to make it less red or to the left to make it more red. If the color is too vibrant, decrease Saturation, and if it is too light or dark, play with the ’Luminance’ slider.

My picture is way too light/dark!

Find the ‘Light’ tab. Here you can adjust the exposure to make the photo lighter or darker.

I don’t like the color of the sky…

This can be fixed with the HSL feature in the same way that skin tone can be adjusted. Go to the ‘Color’ tab and select ‘Mix’ in the upper right corner of the menu. Choose the blue dot. Slide the ‘Hue’ slider to make the blue either more green-blue or more purple-blue. If the color is too vibrant, decrease Saturation, and if it is too light or dark, play with the ’Luminance’ slider.

Everything is too blue/purple/green!!!

You can use the temperature slider (found under the color tab) to make your picture more or less blue/orange. The tint slider does the same thing but with green/purple. This is called adjusting the white balance!.
